The Australian Embassy, Kathmandu to welcome New Colombo Plan Scholar in 2015

One of Australia’s most talented undergraduate students has won prestigious New Colombo Plan scholarship to live, study and work in Nepal in 2015.

Foreign Minister Julie Bishop announced the 2015 New Colombo Plan Scholars in a ceremony in Canberra last night.

Farewell to the Australia Awards Scholarship Recipients

At a ceremony held in Kathmandu on 28 November 2014, the Australian Government awarded 44 Australia Awards Scholarships and two Australia Awards Endeavour Scholarships and Fellowships to 46 Nepali candidates to pursue postgraduate studies in Australia commencing in 2015. Australia is one of the largest providers of scholarships in Nepal. More than 484 development-focussed scholarships have been awarded in Nepal since the 1960s.

Australian funds to 15 small projects

On 23 September 2014, Australia’s Ambassador to Nepal, HE Glenn White, presented cheques worth NPR 29.4 million to 14 nongovernment organisations in Nepal under the embassy’s Direct Aid Program 2014-15. The Embassy, through its Direct Aid Program, is funding projects in health, education, disability, sports and media development.

Research project on sustainable use of groundwater and surface water launched

On 17 September 2014, Nepal’s Minister for Irrigation, Hon. Narayan Prakash Saud and Australia’s Ambassador to Nepal, HE Glenn White, launched a four-year regional project (June 2014-June 2018) on ‘Improving water use for dry season agriculture by marginal and tenant farmers in the Eastern Gangetic Plains’ in Kathmandu.

Australian Embassy Celebrates International Women’s Day 2014

The Australian Embassy marked International Women’s Day 2014 in Kathmandu by screening a documentary “Catching Cancer” amidst a gathering of gynaecology oncologists, geneticists, medical doctors, researchers, government officials and health activists. The screening was supported by December Media, Melbourne, Australia.
